The so-called hard alloy is a powder metallurgy product made of high hardness refractory metal carbide and specific binder sintering. It has good heat resistance and can withstand cutting temperatures of up to 800-1000 degrees. At the same time, due to the high hardness of carbide tools, good sharpness, wear resistance, more durable than high-speed steel tools, its shape retention is incomparable to high-speed steel. In addition, cemented carbide cutting tools have long service life, good processing quality and high precision. Therefore, it is widely used in processing various materials.
The various properties of titanium make it a powerful and attractive part material, but many of these properties also affect its machinability. Titanium alloys commonly used in industry are two-phase titanium alloys, namely (αβ) titanium alloys. TC4 and TC6 are commonly used in aircraft engine fuel accessories, and TC4 is a typical representative of this type of alloy. Titanium alloy material has high hardness, poor cutting performance, and easy to produce work hardening phenomenon, which brings difficulties to the cutting process. The emergence of carbide cutting tools to solve this problem.
The hardness and wear resistance of the cutting tool material used in titanium alloy processing is better, it has excellent heat resistance, can maintain high strength and toughness at high temperature, and has certain impact resistance and damage resistance. The tools that meet the above requirements are: ceramic tools, coated carbide tools, cubic boron nitride tools (CBN) and diamond-like tools (PCD).
Coated cemented carbide tools are inexpensive, and have good thermal conductivity and high hardness, in the red hardness and toughness and other aspects are also outstanding, although than ceramics, cubic boron nitride tools (CBN), diamond-like tools heat resistance and chemical stability to be worse, but than ceramics and diamond-like tools with high impact resistance and damage resistance. Therefore, it has become the preferred tool for processing titanium alloy.
